Death Investigation
September 5, 2010

On September 4, 2010, at approximately 1012 hrs, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputies as well as Southwest Rural Fire units and Lincoln Fire and Rescue Ambulance were detailed to 6920 West ‘O’ on a 10 month old who had been found with his head in a toilet and not breathing.

Upon their arrival, deputies and Southwest Rural EMTs took over CPR and rescue breathing before the child was transported to Bryan/LGH West Emergency Room. The baby was pronounced dead at approximately 1133 hrs by Emergency Room Doctors.

The baby is Chase A. Lauenroth who would have turned one on November 19. He was found by his father Nicholas A. Lauenroth. The baby’s mother, Karen Bryant was at work at the time.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death. The case is still under investigation. Results are not expected to be available until Tuesday morning.

UPDATE September 7, 2010

The autopsy was conducted Monday September 6, 2010 at Douglas County Hospital in Omaha. The investigation, including the gross autopsy results has not discovered any evidence of foul play. The investigation will remain active until the final autopsy results, including toxicology, are complete, which could take 3-4 weeks.
