The Windstream telephone system was down today in multiple counties, including Lancaster. Backup measures were implemented to allow the public to contact emergency services in Lancaster County by cellular phone.
Deputies were stationed at rural fire stations throughout the county to receive requests from the public and several amatuer radio and fire/rescue volunteers also assisted in contacting the public. An email notification was also set up for residents to contact the Sheriff's Office.
Lancaster County Emergency Management Director Doug Ahlberg activated the emergency operations center due to the interruption in communications.
The outage lasted approximately xxxxxxxxxxx hours.
