Captain Tom Brookhouser

Captain Tom Brookhouser joined the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office in March of 1990. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1983 and from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1992. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August of 1997 and to the rank of Captain in June of 2013.

Prior to his promotion, Captain Brookhouser worked in numerous positions over the course of his career including patrol deputy, narcotics investigator, criminal investigator, courts sergeant, patrol sergeant, and as team leader for the Metro Fugitive Task Force.

Captain Brookhouser has also been part of many specialized assignments over the years including Defensive Tactics Instructor, Bike Patrol Unit Coordinator, Honor Guard Coordinator, and various positions with the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #29. He spent over twenty years on the Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Unit including duties as Team Leader and Team Coordinator.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Captain Brookhouser spent over twenty years as a member of the Nebraska Air National Guard in the 155th Security Forces Squadron. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served as the Squadron’s Flight Sergeant prior to retiring in 2004. His service included a year and a half on active duty, including a tour overseas, following the tragic events on 9/11.

Tom, and his wife Tammy, are the proud parents of three teenage daughters, Makenzie, Kylie, and Tara.
