  • Offices Closed for Christmas and New Year's — 12/21

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Christmas day, Tuesday, December 25, 2012, and in observance of New Year's Day on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.

  • Commissioner’s Award of Excellence — 12/12

    Diane Ness Kirchoff, Mental Health Program Manager at the Community Mental Health Center, received the Commissioners Award of Excellence Award for November, 2012 at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting today. Ms. Kirchoff was nominated by Ron Sorensen in the category of Productivity.

  • Treasurer Returns Bond Funds of $250,000 — 11/29

    County Treasurer, Andy Stebbing, stated the Treasurer’s Office has held onto $500,000 in bond funds since 2004 and is now prepared to return half of that amount. In 2004 Lancaster County sold bonds and raised $1.5 million for new computer systems for the County Assessor and the County Treasurer’s Offices. The County Assessor purchased their computer system and the Treasurer’s Office never did.

  • County Offices Closed November 22 and 23 — 11/20

    In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, Lancaster County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23, 2012.

  • County Offices Closed Monday, November 12, 2012 — 11/8

    Lancaster County offices will be closed Monday, November 12, 2012 in observance of Labor Day.

  • Cornhusker Boys' and Girls' County Government Day — 11/6

    On Wednesday, November 7, 2012 area high schools will be participating in County Government Day at the County-City Building and Hall of Justice in Lincoln. This event, which is co-sponsored by the American Legion and Lancaster County, provides students with an overview of county government and the justice system. Included is a tour of various courtrooms and the Emergency Operations Center, as well as individual county offices.

  • Election Commissioner Expects Record Number of Voters — 10/31

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively is projecting that a record number of Lancaster County voters will cast ballots for the 2012 General Election.

  • Voter Registration Deadline: Friday Oct 26th — 10/22

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively today reminded voters that the last day to register to vote for the General Election is Friday, October 26th. However, voters must register to vote in person. The date to have a mail-in voter registration application form postmarked was Friday, October 19th.

  • Extended Hours For Voter Registration and Early Voting — 10/19

    Lincoln -- Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively announced today that the Lancaster County Election Commissioner's Office will be open additional hours for Voter Registration and Early Voting in advance of the November 6th General Election.

  • Mail-in Voter Registration Deadline - Oct. 19th — 10/15

    Lincoln -- Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively is reminding voters that the deadline for mail-in voter registration is Friday, October 19th in order for the registration to be effective for the November 6th General Election. Anyone registering to vote for the first time or voters who have moved, changed their name, or want to change their political party affiliation must have the mail-in registration form postmarked no later than Friday, October 19th. In addition, Friday, October 19th is also the deadline to register to vote when applying for a driver’s license or at any government agency.

  • Voter Registration Sites for October 13th – 18th — 10/12

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at several sites from Saturday, October 13th through Thursday, October 18th. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at the following times and locations:

  • Voter Registration Sites for October 9th – 13th — 10/5

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at several sites from Tuesday, October 9th through Saturday, October 13th. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at the following times and locations:

  • September Award of Excellence — 10/2

    Casey Mitchell, a Corrections Sergeant for Lancaster County Corrections, received the Commissioners Award of Excellence Award for September, 2012 at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting today. Mr. Mitchell was nominated by Ken Prey, Corrections Lieutenant, in the category of Productivity.

  • Early Voting for General Election — 10/1

    Lincoln -- At a news conference this morning, Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively unveiled a new early vote/absentee ballot drop box which has been installed in front of the Election Office located at 601 North 46th Street in Lincoln. Shively stated that in addition to ballots, early vote request forms, voter registration forms and juror qualification forms may also be deposited in the box. The drop box will be available twenty-four hours a day. Shively indicated that a drop box for early/absentee ballots has been suggested by numerous early voters during previous election cycles.

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at several sites from Monday, October 1st through Sunday, October 7th. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at the following times and locations:

  • Voter Registration Sites for September 25th - 30th — 9/21

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at several sites from Tuesday, September 25th through Sunday, September 30th. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at the following times and locations:

  • Union College to Host Voter Registration — 9/18

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner, in conjunction with Union College, will conduct voter registration drives on Wednesday, September 19th and Thursday, September 20th. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at the following times and locations:

  • Election Commissioner to Mail Polling Place Cards — 9/14

    Lincoln - As a reminder to voters for the upcoming Presidential Election, Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively has announced that polling place cards will be mailed to all voters in the county beginning on Friday, September 14th. The cards should arrive in the voter's mailboxes over the next week to ten days.

  • Voter Registration at Super Foods in Waverly, September 26th — 9/14

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at Super Foods in the Waverly Plaza on Wednesday, September 26th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at that time.

  • NE Wesleyan and Doane College to Host Voter Registration on Constitution Day — 9/14

    LINCOLN -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner, in conjunction with Nebraska Wesleyan University and Doane College (Lincoln Campus), will conduct voter registration drives on Constitution Day, Monday, September 17th. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at the following times and locations:

  • City-County Food Bank Drive a Success — 8/30

    Mayor Chris Beutler and Lancaster County Commission Chair Deb Schorr today commended City and County employees for donating $25,072 and more than 4,575 pounds of food and personal items to the Food Bank for Lincoln. Food Bank Director Scott Young said the annual City-County Food Bank Drive is a key part of the annual Campaign Against Hunger.

  • County Treasurer Seeking Cost Efficient Banking — 8/30

    County Treasurer Andy Stebbing announced today that by using better and more efficient banking methods he estimates his office will save tens of thousands of dollars in banking costs over the next year.

  • Offices Closed for Labor Day — 8/29

    Lancaster County offices will be closed Monday, September 3, 2012 in observance of Labor Day.

  • Keno Prevention Fund Applications Due: August 6, 2012 — 7/13

    The Keno Human Services Prevention Fund is designed to help fund programs for children and families to help prevent crisis situations through early intervention. This Round (36), approximately $48,000 will be available to selected nonprofit agencies meeting the funding guidelines. Application and Guidelines can be found online at: http://lancaster.ne.gov/hserv/index.htm, left side column under, "Keno Human Services Prevention - Fund Guidelines". Applications are due by 4:30 p.m., August 6, 2012, at Lancaster County Human Services, 555 South 10th Street, Suite 107, Lincoln, NE 68508.

  • Updated On-line GIS Mapping Application — 7/12

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce an updated and enhanced GIS mapping application with several new features is now available on the Lancaster County website. They invite residents to explore the application to see the new features and the increased amount of information about land in Lancaster County.

  • Recycle Unused License Plates at any DMV Office — 7/6

    County Treasurer, Andy Stebbing, stated the Treasurer’s Office recycled 66,000 license plates in December, 2011, for a total of 4,980 pounds of scrap aluminum. They continue to accept unused plates from the public on an increasing basis. This recycling effort has resulted in approximately $3,500 for the County’s General Fund. The plates are sent to Sadoff Iron and Metal of Lincoln who shreds them safeguarding any chance of the plates returning to be fictitiously affixed to vehicle.

  • Deadlines For Village Boards Of Trustees And Ed. Service Units — 7/3

    Lincoln — Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively is reminding potential candidates that the incumbent filing deadline for offices not on the May primary ballot is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012. The deadline for non-incumbents is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. A person is considered an incumbent if he/she is a current officeholder of any elected office and would like to file for the same office or a different office.

  • Sanitary Improvement Districts Filing Deadline Nears — 7/2

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively is reminding residents that the filing deadline for candidates for the Board of Trustees of Lancaster County's four Sanitary Improvement Districts (SIDs) is Monday, July 23, 2012 at 4:30 p.m.

  • County Offices Closed Wednesday, July 4, 2012 — 7/2

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in observance of Independence Day.

  • No Longer Mail Out Property Tax Receipts — 6/14

    County Treasurer Andy Stebbing, announced today that he intends to save approximately $50,000 annually by mailing tax payment receipts only upon request.

  • Commissioner’s Award of Excellence — 6/13

    At their meeting today, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners presented its May, 2012 Commissioners Award of Excellence to Sondra Kirchhoff, an Account Clerk II in the office of the Clerk of the District Court. Sondra was nominated for this award by Sue Kirkland, Clerk of the District Court.

  • Death of Anton Fomin — 6/13

    Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly released information regarding the death of Anton Fomin (d.o.b. 12-04-2002), who died on May 18, 2012 in a house fire at 13151 N. 40th Street in Davey, Nebraska.

  • Property Valuation Protests — 6/1

    Protests can be filed electronically at lancaster.ne.gov (keyword "protest"). Property owners filing a SINGLE residential or agricultural protest online will also be able to select their referee hearing date/time. The County Clerk's Office will schedule hearing dates/times for multiple agricultural/residential properties and those who do not file electronically. This year, there are only 6,000 referee hearing times available. After the 6,000 slots are full, unscheduled protests will be reviewed by a referee without a hearing. All other properties types except for agricultural and residential properties will be reviewed by the referee without a hearing.

  • Mental Health Services Transition — 5/25

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners is in the process of determining how mental health services will be provided in Lancaster County, based upon a report and recommendations from the Community Mental Health Planning Committee.

  • Offices Closed for Memorial Day — 5/24

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2012 in observance of Memorial Day.

  • Final Reminders for Election Day — 5/14

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively is offering some final reminders to voters for the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

  • Additional Hours for Early/Absentee Voting — 5/11

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively announced today that the Lancaster County Election Commissioner's Office will be open extra hours for early/absentee voting for the May 15th Primary Election.

  • Treasurer Reduced Staff From 45 FTE's to 40 — 5/7

    County Treasurer Andy Stebbing, announced today that he has reduced his staff from 45 FTE’s, (Full time employees), to 40.
    “We cut 2.5 unfilled-unfunded positions and an additional 2.5 Driver’s License Clerks as a recent change in state law shifts the driver’s license duties to the State of Nebraska.”

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively today reminded voters that the last day to register to vote for the May 15th Primary Election is Friday, May 4th. However, voters must register to vote in person. The date to have a mail-in voter registration application form postmarked was Friday, April 27th.

    Lincoln -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at several sites Saturday, April 21st through Thursday, April 26th.   • Jury Returns Verdict — 4/13

    A jury in the District Court for Lancaster County has returned a guilty verdict against Nichole Heusinkvelt for manslaughter, stemming from a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred on September 3, 2011 on Highway 33, south and west of Lincoln. The eastbound car driven by Nichole Heusinkvelt struck and killed James Oldfield as he and two other motorcyclists were westbound on the two-lane highway.

    Lincoln -- The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct voter registration at Bennett Martin Library, 136 South 14th Street, Lincoln on Thursday, April 12th from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 6, 2012, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote at that time.

  • Mental Health Services Transition — 4/6

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners is in the process of determining how mental health services will be provided in Lancaster County. Based upon a report and recommendations from the Community Mental Health Planning Committee the Board is establishing a communications plan to inform citizens, consumers, family members, staff and providers as the process moves forward.

  • Polling Place Changes — 4/6

    Lincoln — Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively announced today that new polling place cards will be mailed to all voters in the county on Friday, April 6th. Voters in the county should start to receive the cards in the next three to five days.

  • Polling Place Changes - Advisory — 4/5

    Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively will hold a news conference on Friday, April 6, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss polling place changes for the 2012 elections.   • Commissioner’s Award of Excellence — 3/20

    On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners presented the 2011 Annual Commissioners' Award of Excellence to Todd Teut, a Heavy Truck Operator in the Lancaster County Engineering Department. The County Commissioners' Award of Excellence recognizes employees who consistently provide outstanding service and work that demonstrates exemplary personal commitment to Lancaster County. As the 2011 Annual Commissioners' Award of Excellence recipient, Todd was awarded a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, two days off with pay and a plaque.

  • Commissioner's Award of Excellence — 3/7

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners presented its January, 2012 Commissioners Award of Excellence to Jason Workman in the categories of Safety, Productivity and Customer Relations. Jason works as a Juvenile Detention Officer at the Youth Services Center. He began working for Lancaster County on February 24, 1997, and was nominated for this award by Johanna Machmer, a fellow employee at the Youth Services Center.

  • Norris School District Special Bond Election to be Conducted Through the Mail — 2/21

    Lincoln - The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct a Special Mail-in Bond Election for the Norris School District 160 on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. The special election will be conducted entirely by mail.

  • Call For Nebraska Artists — 2/17

    The County-City Building located at 555 S.10th Street, managed by the Public Building Commission, seeks two-dimensional art created by Nebraska visual artists for its 2012-2013 exhibition season. Located on the first floor of the County-City Building this venue will display the work of four artists over the course of one year with each artist receiving a 3 - 4 month exhibition period. Artists will be selected by a jury consisting of the Exhibition Coordinator, a Commissioner from the Public Building Commission, an employee of the Mayor's Office and a member of the art community.

  • Commissioner's Award of Excellence — 2/1

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners presented its December, 2011 Commissioners Award of Excellence to Gayla Anderson in the categories of Productivity and Customer Relations. Gayla works as a Mental Health Clinician II at the Community Mental Health Center. She began working for the County on June 10, 1996. She was nominated for this award by Dr. Charlyn Shickell and Dean Settle.

  • Treasurer Adds Second Location for Issuing Vehicle Titles — 2/1

    County Treasurer Andy Stebbing, announced today that owners of motor vehicles now may complete motor vehicle title work at the 500 West “O” Street Driver’s License Testing Facility, Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
