Lancaster County
Board of Commissioners
Motorsports Task Force
Purpose & Scope
The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners formed the Motorsports Task Force
to help the County address the economic, environmental, recreational and community
issues involved with motorsports facilities. Hopefully, the work of the Task Force
will lay the foundation for community consensus and the formulation of sound public
policy regarding the establishment and operation of motorsports facilities.
To accomplish this purpose, the Board is requesting the Task Force to carefully
examine the following issues:
- Potential demand for new motorsports facilities in Lancaster County;
- Examine spectator as well as participant demand;
- Review existing facilities in the region;
- Economic, fiscal, social and environmental benefits and costs to the community
- Based on different types of facilities and activity levels;
- Pros and cons of providing motorsports
activities in one general location
as opposed to decentralized facilities
for a specific motorsport activity;
- Identify and rank the most promising and
acceptable locations in Lancaster County for motorsports facilities and/or
activities; and
- Evaluate and make recommendations on the
most approprate business model for providing new facilities for participants
and spectators, e.g., public, private, public/private partnership.
The Lancaster County Board is hopeful the Task Force can complete its work within
the next several months and submit a final report to the Board by March 1, 2007.
