Brent Smoyer is serving his first term on the county board, representing Northeast Lancaster County. Brent attended Grand Island Northwest High School. He graduated in 2004 from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a minor in vocal music. In 2007 he graduated from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. While in law school, Brent was granted numerous honors and opportunities, including being chosen among a select few to attend a specialized course on constitutional law taught by US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. In addition to law school, Brent spent 2 years working in the Iowa Senate. He currently serves as legal counsel to the Nebraska Legislature's Rules Committee and its chair, Senator Scott Lautenbaugh of Omaha. In his spare time, Brent enjoys reading, involving himself with charitable and community groups like the Lincoln Community Playhouse or the Knights of Columbus, making improvements on his home near Wesleyan, and spending time at the gym.
