Biography:

Brent's parents are Kevin and Sandy Smoyer and he is the oldest of 3 boys. Brent attended Grand Island Northwest High School. He graduated in 2004 from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a minor in vocal music. In 2007 he graduated from Drake University Law School. In the second year of law school he was selected to take a 2 week course on constitutional law taught by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Brent spent 2 years working in the Iowa Senate. He currently serves as legal counsel to the Nebraska Legislature's Rules Committee and its chair, Senator Scott Lautenbaugh of Omaha.
