Deb is currently serving her fourth term as a Lancaster County Commissioner. She represents District 3 which is comprised of the majority of southwest Lancaster County, including south Lincoln, the City of Hickman and the incorporated villages of Denton, Firth, Hallam, Roca and Sprague. She grew up in Omaha, graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business and has lived in Lincoln for over 35 years.
Prior to her election, Deb worked as an auditor for the former FirsTier Bank, served as an Executive Assistant to Governor Kay Orr, did private fundraising consulting, and was a stay-at-home mom and community volunteer. Deb has served in leadership positions with Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lincoln Southwest Boosters, Lincoln Community Playhouse, Maxey Elementary PTO, Homestead Girl Scouts, Delta Gamma Alumnae and the Junior League of Lincoln.
Deb's particular areas of interest on the County Board are property taxes, economic development, state legislation, tourism, public health and safety, as well as issues facing at-risk children. She understands the importance of the criminal justice system, the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges, and the major financial obligations counties have in these areas. One of her favorite things about her County Commissioner role is the opportunity to speak to students about local government and the importance of public service. Deb's committee service includes serving as Chair of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Railroad Transportation Safety District, Vice Chair of the Joint Budget Committee, Vice Chair of the District Energy Corporation, and the Lincoln/Lancaster County Parks Advisory Board. She currently is the Vice President of the Nebraska Association of County Officials and is a member of the Lincoln Community Foundation Board of Directors. She has also served as County Board Chair on three different occasions. In 2015 and again in 2016, Deb was selected by the Lincoln Journal Star as one of the 20 most influential women in Lincoln.
Deb and her husband Mark, a Lincoln attorney, recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and are proud parents of two daughters. Allison, a graduate of Lincoln East and Texas Christian University, lives in Omaha and works in communications and marketing. Melissa, a graduate of Lincoln Southwest and the University of Missouri, lives in Kansas City and is a financial account representative. Deb's hobbies include running, gardening, reading, traveling, attending music and theater events, and of course, Husker sports.
