Commissioner's Award of Excellence

  • JANUARY 2018 WINNER - Dave Haas
    County Engineer;
    Category - Productivity

Lincoln, NE - February 6, 2018 - Dave Haas, Laborer for the Lancaster County Department of Engineering was honored with the Commissioners' Award of Excellence at the February 6, 2018 Board of Commissioners meeting. Haas was nominated by Lancaster County Engineer, Pam Dingman in the category of productivity. The Commissioners' Award of Excellence recognizes employees who consistently provide outstanding service and work that demonstrates exemplary personal commitment to Lancaster County.

Haas has spent much of the past year becoming proficient with the phone and computer systems in the Engineering department. He has provided a great deal of extra coverage at the front desk and aids in additional office duties that were previously covered by two full-time employees but is now only covered by one. Dave has also stepped up to provide assistance for the structural engineer with bridge maintenance programming. Engineer Dingman noted in her nomination form that, "The extra assistance that Dave provided has allowed the office to stay up-to-date on many everyday tasks and provided relief for the rest of the already busy staff."

Additionally, the department has been migrating to electronic records management and Haas has spent a tremendous amount of time assisting with that process and scanning at least 4,000 documents into the HPRM system. Prior to his work on this, no one had been scanning any documents and the department had accumulated years of records that needed to be converted into an electronic format. Dingman credits Haas for the completion of this time-intensive project and that his efforts have enabled other staff to focus on fully implementing the electronic records management system. Dingman stated that, "Dave is always eager to help and ready to take on any task you give him. He is friendly and polite when dealing with the public and all of his co-workers; for all these reasons, County Engineering is proud to have Dave as one of our employees." In addition to his work for Lancaster County, Haas spent 20 years serving in the military and completed two tours of duty in Iraq. Lancaster County Board Commissioner, Roma Amundson stated, "On behalf of the County Board I would like to thank you for your tremendous amount of service, not just to the County but to your country as well, you've served us on all levels and we sincerely appreciate it."
