The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners announced the recipient of their 2014 Annual Commissioners Award of Excellence today at the Board meeting. Kurt Renner, Maintenance Repair Worker II with the Lancaster County Property Management Department, received this year's award. He was nominated for this award by District Court Judge Robert Otte in the category of Productivity.
In his nomination, Judge Otte stated, "Kurt's carpentry skills and his attitude toward tackling various projects are remarkable. We often have projects that require the construction or modification of bookcases, cabinets, counters, desktops and other production pieces that would simply be too expensive to buy commercially and would not match the style or quality that has been maintained in our courtrooms and chambers. Kurt has been willing to manufacture these pieces promptly and with the highest quality. Recently, Kurt agreed to help with refurbishing the West Jury Lounge. He built tables, cabinets and counters, which simply would not have been in the budget. The work is now done and Kurt has turned that shabby room into a usable conference and meeting space. I am confident Kurt's work for the county pays for itself many times over and it is always a pleasure to deal with Kurt on any project. Kurt did a total of 10 pieces and the work was simply superb. I suspect the work had a value of more than $7,500.00. Our budget would not have supported the cost for these improvements."
Roma Amundson, Chair of the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners, stated "The Board is pleased to recognize Kurt as the 2014 Commissioners Annual Award of Excellence recipient. On behalf of the Board I want to thank him for his outstanding work and congratulate him on this award. Kurt is an excellent craftsman and an asset to the County."
Richard Busch, also an employee with the County Property Management Department, was selected as the 2014 Honorable Mention recipient. Richard has been the "go-to" person with the County-City Building Art Exhibition space, and in that capacity he works with Liz Shea-McCoy, the Director of the exhibition, as well as the artists, to both install and take down artists' work. The exhibition changes quarterly. In his nomination it was noted that Richard is easy to work with, very flexible, gently handles the artwork, and is meticulous in his work on the display. Richard was nominated in the category of Customer Relations.
The Commissioners Award of Excellence award recognizes employees who consistently provide outstanding service and work that demonstrates exemplary personal commitment to Lancaster County.
