Commissioner's Award of Excellence

  • NOVEMBER 2012 WINNER - Diane Ness Kirchoff, Mental Health Program Manager
    Community Mental Health Center;
    Category - Productivity

Diane Ness Kirchoff, Mental Health Program Manager at the Community Mental Health Center, received the Commissioners Award of Excellence Award for November, 2012 at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting today. Ms. Kirchoff was nominated by Ron Sorensen in the category of Productivity.

In early 2012 the Community Mental Health Center began working on an initiative designed to improve their admissions process and reduce "no-shows". Diane began to track admissions in February. After analyzing the admissions information she made several changes that impacted the appointment process, and the results of those changes are clearly evident. Among those results are these: the number of days from first contact to the date an appointment is set have been reduced by 2.4 days; the number of days from first contact to the appointment date have been reduced by 8.1 days; and the "no-show" rate has been reduced by 27%.

In his nomination Ron Sorensen stated that from a programmatic point of view these changes have also impacted services in a positive way. Studies of services for persons with mental illness reveal that the quicker a person has access to services the more likely a successful outcome will result. Additionally, staff are more productive due to the reduced "no-show" rates, and increased productivity results in more revenue collected from state, federal, insurance and other sources.

Deb Schorr, Lancaster County Board of Commissioners Chair, stated "The Board is pleased to recognize Diane Ness Kirchoff for her initiative and leadership in improving the admissions process at the Community Mental Health Center. We applaud her and appreciate her efforts to help the Community Mental Health Center, their consumers, and Lancaster County as a whole as we constantly strive to improve services. On behalf of the Board I congratulate Diane on this award".

The Commissioners Award of Excellence award recognizes employees who consistently provide outstanding service and work that demonstrates exemplary personal commitment to Lancaster County.
