Atkins Awarded as Lancaster County Department of Corrections Employee of the Year

Lincoln, NE -- May 2, 2017 -- The Lancaster County Department of Corrections announces that Nathan Atkins has been awarded the honor of Employee of the Year for 2016. Atkins is a System Programmer for the department and has been employed with Lancaster County since June, 2015. Nathan was nominated for the award by one of his colleagues at the Lancaster County Department of Corrections and was chosen as Employee of the Year.

In his nomination for Employee of the Year Nate was cited as having made extraordinary contributions to the department since joining the staff. Some of Nate's accomplishments include designing, implementing and monitoring the Electronic Timesheet System database. The use of Atkins' timesheet systems has allowed the department to gather data that was previously unattainable before and will be greatly beneficial for department use. In addition, Nate has been proactive in addressing issues with the camera and video recording system at the jail and is currently working to modernize the entire system. Atkins has also been instrumental in helping to update and make handheld data units useful for all staff members. Lancaster County Department of Corrections Director Bradley Johnson noted that, “Nathan is an essential part of the Lancaster County Corrections team and our operations would not be as efficient as they are without him and his support.” In his nomination form, his co-worker noted that, “Nate's positive attitude and can-do spirit is infectious and makes changes that can sometimes be challenging much more successful.” The Lancaster County Department of Corrections employs approximately 200 people and housed an average of 620 inmates daily in 2016.
