First Deadline for 2012 Elections is Approaching
Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively today reminded potential candidates that the first deadline for the 2012 election cycle is rapidly approaching. Potential candidates have until the close of business on Friday, December 2, 2011, to change their political party affiliation if they intend to seek the nomination of a political party different from which they are currently registered.
Shively indicated that candidates for the following partisan offices must meet this requirement:
United States Senator
Representative in Congress, District 1
Public Service Commissioner, District 1
County Commissioner Districts 2 and 4
Potential candidates interested in changing their political party affiliation may do so in person at the Lancaster County Election Office, 601 North 46th Street, Lincoln. The election commissioner's office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Shively also reminded potential candidates that Thursday, December 1, 2011 is the first day candidates may file as a candidate for the 2012 elections.
