Police Department
LPD Seeking Assistance with Death Investigation
Lincoln Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is still actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the unexplained death of Carl Bittner, Jr.
In March 2004, skeletal remains were discovered in an undeveloped area just west of Salt Creek between West "A" and South Streets. See the attached map. The square marks the approximate area of the skeleton. The shallow grave was found in an area frequented by transients. Subsequent investigation revealed that these were the remains of Carl Frances Bittner, Jr., who was listed as a missing person. He was last seen alive in August 2002. He was 37 years of age at the time of his disappearance. The photo was taken just a few months prior. At that time, Carl was a transient with an alcohol problem. He had been in Lincoln only a short time, coming from Las Vegas, Nevada. We are interested in hearing from anyone who has information on this case.
Please contact Sergeant Wilke at 441-6944 or Crime Stoppers at 475-3600.
