SANDHILL CRANE TRIP co-sponsored by Wild Bird Habitat Stores
Experience one of our planet’s most spectacular wildlife migrations. Visit Crane Meadows, travel rural roads to see the cranes feeding in the fields, and watch the cranes return to the Platte River from a Rowe Sanctuary Blind. Dinner will be furnished by the Wild Bird Habitat Stores, at Burchell’s Whitehill Farmhouse Inn. The fee includes van travel and blind costs. Participants must be able to walk ¼ to ½ mile on uneven ground in low light with a guide. Spaces are limited. Registration and payment required by 2/20 because of the necessity to reserve the blind.

BIRDS AND BAGELS
The coffee’s on, the bagels are fresh, and the bird feeders are full. Enjoy a relaxing morning watching the winter birds that flock to Nature Center feeders and learning basic bird identification tips. Groups of 5 or more are asked to call 402-441-7895 to let us know of your plans.

GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT ACTIVITY DAY
Sharpen your bird identification skills by helping Nature Center staff record visitors to our bird garden and get tips on feeding birds in your backyard. This program is held in conjunction with the 13th nation-wide annual Great Backyard Bird Count, held February 12th – 15th this year. Participants in the bird count help document where birds are and track changes in their numbers compared to previous years, assisting scientists to paint a picture of the current state of birds. No registration necessary.

WOODPECKER PIZZA PARTY for ages 5-7
It’s going to be a rap-tapping good party! Join in the fun discovering the special things that allow woodpeckers to drum out a beat, dig holes in trees and slurp yummy insects from bark. We’ll go for a walk, looking and listening for these beautiful birds and then make a suet pizza to attract them to your backyard. Register by March 3.

BLUEBIRDS
Because of loss of nesting habitat, bluebird populations have been greatly helped by those willing to put up and care for bluebird boxes. Learn what you need to know to attract these beautiful birds. Register by March 3.

PURPLE MARTINS
Do you want to attract purple martins to your yard, or simply learn more about these fascinating birds? This class will give you all the information you need. Register by 3/24.

BIRDS IN THE HAND
Do you want to know what the bird is you see outside your window? Drop in and get some tips on how to identify birds from our Nature Center bird banders as you view some birds up close and witness the banding process.

SPRING AND SUMMER BIRD FEEDING
Learn how to attract orioles, rose-breasted grosbeaks, hummingbirds and other neo-tropical migrants. Register by 4/21.

BIRD BANDING DEMONSTRATIONS
This is your opportunity to see up close some of the migratory birds that pass through our area as well as our year round residents. Join a licensed bird bander to watch the banding process and to learn about this nation-wide research project. In case of rain or excessive heat, banding will be cancelled. Bird Banding Station. No registration necessary.

MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST AND BIRDWALK
Treat your mother to a unique Mother’s Day early morning birdwalk followed by a breakfast of rolls, fruit, and a beverage. Binoculars will be provided for those who do not have their own. Register by 5/5.
