Jury returns verdict
A jury in the District Court for Lancaster County has returned a guilty verdict against Nichole Heusinkvelt for manslaughter, stemming from a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred on September 3, 2011 on Highway 33, south and west of Lincoln. The eastbound car driven by Nichole Heusinkvelt struck and killed James Oldfield as he and two other motorcyclists were westbound on the two-lane highway.
Judge Stephanie Stacey set the sentencing for June 15, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.
Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly commended the deputy county attorneys who prosecuted the case, the Lancaster County Sheriff's department, and the Nebraska State Patrol for their outstanding work. "We want to thank the jurors for their service. These are important convictions for the family of the victim and the community. The convictions are the result of hundreds and hundreds of hours of work by the staffs of County Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Office," said Kelly.
