WHAT IS THE FILE OF LIFE?
The File of Life card, which is kept in a red plastic pocket labled FILE OF LIFE, lists a persons name, emergency medical contacts, insurance policy and social security numbers, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgeries, religion, doctor's name and health care proxy. The entire pocket is held with a magnet to the outside of the refrigerator. The File of Life card enables emergency personnel to obtain a quick medical history when the individual is unable to or too confused to offer one.
Persons who are older, have a medical condition, disability, or live alone should have a File of Life. It provides peace of mind for the individual, knowing they will have proper care and that the proper people will be notified if they were unable to in an emergency.
The TRIAD program of Lincoln/Lancaster County is making the File of Life cards available free of charge. TRIAD'S major purpose is to develop effective crime prevention and safety programs for seniors in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies. To obtain a File of Life call 441-7743 and leave a message. A representative will return your call.
They also can arrange a program about scams, frauds, and schemes for your group or organization which would include a presentation about the File of Life.
