Highway 34 Crash
August 23, 2010

On August 23, 2010 at 5:13 P.M. Lancaster County Deputies were detailed to a call at a residence north of ‘O’ street on NW 91st regarding a juvenile trying to break into the residence and threatening family members with a machete. Prior to deputies arrival, the juvenile left the residence in the caller’s vehicle. The caller provided a vehicle description which was relayed to the responding deputies. A deputy sheriff spotted the vehicle and alerted other responding deputies. No attempt was made to stop the vehicle because the driver may have been armed, until a backup unit was nearby. Once a backup unit was in place, an attempt was make to stop the vehicle, a 1997 Ford Taurus 4 door. As the deputies activated their emergency lights and siren, the driver of the Taurus, a 17 year old accelerated westbound on U.S. 34. The pursuit proceeded into Seward County where the 17 year was involved in a crash.
