Mission The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office utilizes a Bike Patrol Unit to support its mission of promoting and preserving a feeling of safety and security to the public we serve. Advantages of Patrolling by Mountain Bike
Requirements/Selection Deputies interested in the Bike Patrol Unit must be in good physical condition. The Patrol Division Captain selects members from a list of volunteers. Deputies must attend and satisfactorily complete a bike patrol training course. Deputies are taught bicycle safety, maintenance, riding techniques, suspect approach techniques, tactical dismounts, obstacle negotiations, and emergency skills. Assignment of Bike Patrol Deputies Deputies assigned to the Bike Patrol Unit are considered regular patrol deputies and assigned accordingly. Deputies assigned to other divisions may perform bike patrol functions for special details when permitted.
Questions / Contact The Bike Patrol Unit is primarily funded through donations from private individuals and businesses. Donations are used to purchase new bikes and equipment. The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office welcomes citizen and business participation in sustaining this worthwhile program.
